Do I need insurance for my bicycle?

  • Your bike probably isn’t fully covered under your home or contents insurance, even if you store it inside
  • You’d be mad not to insure an eBike – eBike theft doubled in 2023
  • Insurance is a legal requirement if you’re using a bicycle for work
  • Bicycle insurance is definitely worth it IF:
    • You use your bike for work or couriering
    • Your bike was super expensive to buy
    • You cycle regularly on busy routes / commute on your bike

What bicycle insurance for an e-bike?

Your bike isn’t likely to be covered by your home or contents insurance, even if you keep it inside when you aren’t using it. You can often add high value items specifically to a home or contents policy, but you’re usually not covered away from home anyway so will still need a separate bicycle policy. E-bike theft grew massively last year, so if your bike was expensive and you couldn’t afford to replace it tomorrow then it might be wise to compare bicycle insurance and find a suitable policy.
